Deeply Rooted in Summerville Since 1982

It’s been proven over and again that proper nutrition is essential to disease prevention and overall good health. In 1982, Meals on Wheels of Summerville conceptualized their mission to deliver homebound residents a nutritious, lunchtime meal while providing well-checks and personal interaction. Through the efforts of some dedicated community leaders, clergy and health professionals, our first meals were delivered in June of 1982. More than 40 years later we have grown to serve over 1300 meals per week.

We do not receive any government funding but are supported by the community we serve. Individuals, churches, and businesses make our mission financially possible! Our part-time staff works closely with the clients, volunteers and Board of Directors to ensure needs are met and operations run smoothly and efficiently.

From picking up food donations, meal prep, and delivery our over 250 volunteers are an essential part of our mission and keep the wheels rolling! There are anywhere from 10-15 clients on each of our 22 routes delivered every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11:00am.

Our recipients are recommended by local health professionals, churches or concerned friends and neighbors. In most cases, these meals mean that people can remain in their homes and avoid the high cost of residential care centers. We bring more than a meal, we take a moment to make sure our clients are safe and cared for. If you know someone living with food insecurity due to a medical reason, who may benefit from meal deliveries, contact us at the office 843-873-8224 or complete our online application HERE.

We are located in Ambler Hall on the campus of St. Paul’s Church at 316 West Carolina Ave in the heart of Summerville, SC. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Here are some photos to remind us of how far we've come and those that helped pave the way.
